WHOA! “Let It Go” Mind. Blown.

This is beyond incredible.  Alex Boye as the Ice King, the One Voice Children’s Choir and the vocally powerful Lexi Walker, all from Salt Lake City.  On Boye’s YouTube page, he writes, “I went out of town for work and when I got back, my wife Julie told me, ‘You’ve got to hear this. She puts on the music and my little 4 year old Adanna struts and shimmies across the living room singing every single word of ‘Let it Go’ with feeling and reckless abandonment!! Along with every other kid in the country, She got Frozenitis!'”

So Boye called up his friend, Masa Fukuda, who directed a choir of 140 kids including Lexi Walker, and they produced their own tribal verison of the hit song.  And yes, the ice is real!  Boye says, “The video shoot was amazing and even though it was SO cold you couldn’t feel your toes, the kids were amazing and so patient!”

SEE IT: “Pitch Perfect” Strikes One Chord – HILARIOUS!

Sometimes you see a movie trailer and you think, “The trailer is funny, but the movie probably sucks.”  Well, for “Pitch Perfect” starring Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson, the trailer is funny… and the film…funnier!  Like, laugh out loud funny!  People all around me in the theater were quoting lines seconds after hearing them on screen.

“Pitch Perfect” is about a college a capella competition and the hardcore students in it.  Ok, not all of them are hardcore, but the casting and the characters are perfection.  Two of the best characters are the vocal competition announcers played by Elizabeth Banks (also a producer on the film) and John Michael Higgins.  Their one liners in the throws of competition are a riot.  Anna Kendrick got her start on Broadway, so it’s no wonder she sounds (and looks) amazing in this film and I have yet to see Rebel Wilson in a movie in which I did not like her.

The music rocks too.  All songs you should know with a nice little twist – kinda like GLEE, but better!  And when you see Anna Kendrick audition in the film singing a capella and using a cup to create a rhythm, know that she did that in her real audition and the producers loved it so much, they added it to the film.

The only sour note for me was Adam DeVine who plays Bumper, the lead singer of the all-male “Treble Makers.”  He comes across as a Jack Black wanna-be.  His lines are funny, but his character was not original.

Check out the trailer below and go see “PITCH PERFECT.”  You will be smiling from ear to ear.  I was.

SEE IT: Finding Nemo 3D

I have been waiting for this!  On Friday, September 14, “Finding Nemo 3D” comes to theaters.  I can’t think of any other movie that I would want to see more in 3D.  It hasn’t been in theaters in nine years.  I still remember seeing “Nemo” for the first time.  As I watched the opening scene, I kept thinking, “Why did they use real footage in an animated movie?”

And then I realized it wasn’t real.  It just looked that way.  That’s the genius of Pixar.

Early reviews indicate that Nemo in 3D is money well-worth spent.  The sea comes alive and takes us through that heart-warming journey of a father in a desperate search for his son…with a fish who can’t remember anything (could anyone but Ellen DeGeneres have played “Dory”?)  The journey of little Nemo as he meets new friends in Australia in a quest to find his father once again.  And let’s not forget the sharks and their 12-step recovery program to keep from eating fish (“Fish are friends, not food.”)

So whether you have seen it before or never seen it all, see it!  Hope to see you all enjoying the EAC!  And if you don’t know what I mean, dude, you gotta see the movie.  Righteous!

Weekly Wrap-Up for June 10, 2012

So with all of my other duties working on Windy City LIVE, writing this blog has been nearly impossible.  Yet, I love it.  Therefore I have decided to write an entertainment wrap up once a week with my take on all of the pop culture and celeb news from the week.  When big news breaks (or when I feel like it), I’ll write other columns, but for now… here we go…

HEADS UP, GAGA!

Lady G was in New Zealand for her latest tour and got smacked in the head with a pole by one of her dancers.  Ouch!  She ended up with a concussion, but finished the show anyway.  I’m hoping it smacked some fashion sense into her.  Get rid of the weird costumes, you freak!  You have talent.  You don’t need all of that.  The video of her get smacked was on YouTube, but the owner took it down.  He probably got offered big bucks by one of the networks to do so.  I’m sure it will be popping up tomorrow on some show.

LOOK OUT FOR LINDSAY

Lindsay Lohan is doing well after wrecking her rented Porshe on Friday as she was driving to set of her new movie on the life of Liz Taylor.  Here’s the really stupid part.  Lindsay had a limo to pick her up and bring her to the set, but she refused it on Friday when he arrived, so she and her assistant drove the Porsche as the limo followed.  DUMB!  Then she totals the car and tries to blame the truck for cutting her off.  No dice, Lindsay.  In almost every rear end case (don’t quote me on this), the driver who rear ends is cited for failure to follow at a proper distance and failure to maintain control.  Lindsay says her brakes failed.  I think her common sense failed.  Again.  Grow up, child.  Follow the rules and you’ll see that life gets much better.

AIR YEEZY 2 IS THE HEEZY

Ok, I get it.  People like sneakers.  And they like sneakers attributed to rock stars and athletes.  But Kanye West’s new Air Yeezy 2 sneakers retail for $245 and before they were released they were selling for $90,000 on ebay.  I’m sure the bids were fake and Kanye’s reps were probably behind the ebay bidding war, but really, people.  THEY ARE SNEAKERS!!!  Do you know how many pairs of Pumas I can get for $245???  I don’t get it, but that’s just me.

CHIPPENDALES JOEY LAWRENCE = YES, LAWD!

Former Blossom star Joey Lawrence is doing a limited run in the famous all-male Chippendales review in Las Vegas.  He made his debut Friday.  Let me just say, “Book me on the next plane to Vegas!!!”  Whew.  Now if all child stars could turn out that good!  Are you listening, Corey Feldman???

SEE IT:  SNOW WHITE & THE HUNTSMAN

I finally got around to seeing the new Snow White flick.  LOVED IT!  The art direction and the cinematography rock.  Charlize Theron is brilliant as the evil queen and I didn’t even mind Kristen Stewart as Snow White (although she does come across as her Twilight character at times).  Excellent summer flick and well worth it.  Check it out.

Last but not least… tune in every Monday to see me on WINDY CITY LIVE on ABC7 in Chicago.  You can also watch it online at windycitylive.com

Viola vs. Meryl. Who Gets Best Actress? Tonight Holds A Big Clue.

UPDATE:  Viola Davis wins Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor In A Leading Role at the SAG Awards.  Meryl Streep led the standing ovation!

It’s probably the award being talked up the most.  Will Viola Davis win Best Actress (officially known as Actress in a Leading role) at the Oscars for her role in “The Help” or will Meryl Streep win for her role in “The Iron Lady?”  There are a few schools of thought.  Some say Viola’s role is the strongest and an incredible break though and the Academy will reward her for that.  Some say Meryl Streep is a legend (and she is) and she hasn’t scored an Oscar since 1983 for “Sophie’s Choice” and she is long over due for another.  This is her 17th nomination after all.

So what’s the franklyHANK school of thought?  And the answer is.  Hell if I know!  But here is what I do know.  In the Academy Awards, you vote for your category, meaning actors vote for actors, directors vote for directors, etc. Except everyone in the Academy votes for the top categories.  The biggest voting block at the Academy Awards are actors — actors who belong to the Screen Actors Guild, the actors union.  Tonight on TBS and TNT at 7pm CT is the Screen Actors Guild Awards or SAG for short.  Many of the film actors who will be voting for tonight’s awards will be voting for the Oscars and the outcome is likely the same… not always, but the SAG Awards are said to be a good indicator.  So… whomever wins tonight for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor In A Leading Role could very well be dusting off a spot for Oscar in her home.

If I had to guess, I would say, “Ms. Davis meet Oscar!”

I’ll be discussing the SAG Awards tomorrow on Windy City LIVE.  Be sure to tune in to the 84th Academy Awards on Sunday, February 26th at 6pm on ABC (ABC7 in Chicago).  And don’t forget to check out Oscars.com for everything you need to know for Oscars Sunday!!   And Windy City LIVE fans, Paige and Plummer will soon be revealing their Oscar picks!  Stay tuned.

Melissa McCarthy is now Oscar-nominated Melissa McCarthy!

My oh my, how far from Plainfield you have come, Ms. McCarthy!!!  One of the hottest names to come out of Chicago was nominated for an Academy Award today (Best Supporting Actress) for her work in “Bridesmaids.”  If you haven’t seen it, her performance is stellar and truly one of the funniest performances you will ever see (especially that now infamous sink scene).

Melissa tells E! Online, “When they said my name I was like, ‘What show is this? This must be some other show,'” McCarthy said. “I kept saying that, but when my picture came up I just kind of crumpled and my husband said, ‘You just got nominated for an Academy Award.'”

McCarthy also says she will be turning to childhood friend and shoe designer, Brian Atwood, to help her choose a dress for the red carpet!  Wow!  Now that’s a decision!  Good luck with that one, Brian.  The world (and more importanly, Chicago) will be watching.

The Oscars are February 26th starting at 6pm on ABC7.  I can’t wait!

Be sure to tune in to Windy City LIVE tomorrow on ABC7 Chicago or windycitylive.com, both at 9AM.  Paige Wiser and David Plummer will recap the winners and losers and stylists Eric Himel and Amy Tara Koch will talk all things fashion.  Let the blogging begin.

ALL TIMES CENTRAL

9:56pm  Thank God this show ended on time b/c if it had run long, I would have killed myself.  It’s over.  Amen and Good night.  Hope you enjoyed the live blog.

9:54pm Harrison Ford has the big award… Best Motion Picture – Drama:  THE DESCENDANTS.   Are you kidding me?  Really?  Really? “The Help” will win the Oscar.   The Golden Globes are not really the pre-cursor to the Oscars, so I will hope for better things.

9:47pm  Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama:  GEORGE CLOONEY for “The Descendants.”  Yawn!  Although the golf joke about Michael Fasbender’s penis was pretty good.  LOL

9:39pm  Best Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical:  THE ARTIST

9:37pm  Meryl curses when she can’t find her glasses!!!  Brilliant.  As the music plays her off, she screams, “Oh no, no!!!”  And her best line… “And I love you, Viola.  You’re my girl.”   Gracious to a fault.  But Viola should have won!  She’ll get the Oscar.

Do Not Touch My “Steel Magnolias!”

The travesty!  The injustice!  The unmitigated gall!  How dare Lifetime try to remake the film “Steel Magnolias?”  Yet, that is exactly what it’s going to do.   This week, Lifetime announced it would remake the film with an all black cast.  I don’t care if the cast is black, Hispanic, Asian or martian… no one should remake that movie!!!

Maybe I am partial because I am a Southerner and the film rings true to my Louisiana roots, but I just don’t see how you are going to find actresses to fill such big shoes.  Would you remake “The Wizard of Oz?”  Or “Gone With the Wind?”  Has Hollywood lost all creativity that no one can come up with a good idea and Lifetime is left with no choice but to steal from “Steel?”

Those classic lines run through my head… “Drink your juice, Shelby!  Drink your juice.”  Or “Mama, my colors are blush and bashful.”  Or “The only reason people are nice to me is because I have more money that God.”

And a personal favorite:  “All gay men have track lightin’ and all gay men are named Mark, Rick or Steve.”

Please, oh please, leave M’Lynn, Ouiser, Clairee, Truvy, Annelle and Shelby alone.   My poor Southern heart can’t take it.

I have to go.  I need to change the bulbs in my track lighting.

It’s Official: Eddie Murphy Hosting The Oscars!

It was rumored this week, but now it’s fact.  Actor Eddie Murphy will host the 84th annual Academy Awards!  I, of course, think he will be brilliant.

Murphy has two upcoming movies.  Oscars producer Bret Rattner recently directed Murphy in the upcoming comedy Tower Heist, which hits theaters Nov. 4.  Murphy will also star in A Thousand Words, coming out on Jan. 13.   When I saw the trailer recently for Tower Heist in a crowded theater, the audience erupted when Murphy  appeared on the screen.

So what do you think?  Good decision?

The 84th annual Academy Awards can be seen on Feb. 26, 2012, on ABC.  READ MORE at The Hollywood Reporter…CLICK HERE.
